MUSICAL ACTIVITIES
The lounge is usually full of laughter and music with the words of longtime favourites. This particular afternoon, captured in photos was “A long way to Tipperary” belted out by Residents Eileen S, Joyce, Veronica, Gerald and Peter. Resident Eileen used the bunch of flowers she had in her hand to conduct and orchestrate the group, while Resident Beatrice accompanied her on the xylophone.
FRIENDSHIPS
One of the hopes we have at the Devonshire is for our Residents to experience well-being through their social connection with each other. Friendships form and are very endearing to observe. This past month we were able to capture a few of these special connections - John and Gerald congratulating each other so spontaneously, while totally engrossed in the television show.
Shoelaces
ANOTHER MAGICAL MOMENT staff witnessed was figuring out the shoelaces. Resident Muriel asked Resident Eileen E to help her with her shoes as the laces were not crossed through each hole. Eileen E was happy to help and showed Muriel where to thread the shoe lace - through the hole. Staff observing this happy exchange were delighted. Muriel and Eileen spent almost 30 minutes talking about shoes and threading the laces in different ways. Eileen told Muriel “My shoes are better because they have this stick tape on; the Nurse (meaning the Carer) just slips my feet in, you should buy a pair from the shops too”. After staff member Nassim assisted and prompted them, Muriel was happy to have her shoes back on.
CAPTURING MOMENTS ON VIDEO
Our staff have requested lessons in how to operate the video camera to try and capture these remarkable moments on video for families. A project we may be able to make available soon.
