Devonshire Dementia Care Home's 30th Anniversary
We reached our milestone 30th Anniversary and started the years celebration with the launch of the Dementia Day Centre next door! Please check out Day Centre website www.devonshiredementiadaycentre.com
We continued the 30th anniversary celebration year by inviting 150 guests to our Annual Residents Christmas Party. This year we were very pleased to include our new Day Centre Guests.
The back garden was transformed into an elegant party room. We were honoured to welcome The Worshipful Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames Councillor Thay Thayalan and Mayoress Lata Thayalan, Councillors Tim Cobbett and Lesley Heap.
Croydon’s Alzheimer’s Society UK singing for the brain group performed at the same event and led the Christmas carol singing. Singing is fun and a social activity that brings people living with dementia and their carers together. Research shows that singing releases endorphins and oxytocin in the brain which boost health. When people sing in a group their hearts beat simultaneously! A very easy way to raise quality of life and boost self-confidence while also creating joyful, memorable experiences. You can bring your loved one and join us on Wednesday mornings for our FREE coffee and singing group at 10.30am.
We served a delicious afternoon tea and were entertained by singer Mikey. Everyone got into the Christmas spirit and danced the traditional conga.
We splurged on an incredible light display, our way of saying thank you to our community for all the support and to all who have lived and worked at the Devonshire. Our neighbours as well as passersby have been delighted by the gorgeous Christmas lights!
‘Just because a loved one has been diagnosed with dementia, it is not the end of their story: at Devonshire Dementia Day Centre we offer renewed hope for a healthy and joyous life - living with dementia.’ Director Smithmon Sasi
