A SEPTEMBER TO REMEMBER
WORLD ALZHEIMER’S DAY
On the 21st of September, to raise awareness, the Devonshire hosted a series of FREE community events, including Singing (10:30-12:30), ALL Day Afternoon Tea, thoughtful care tips and our Dementia Experience.
Residents and visitors warmed up to the chime of ‘Good Morning’ before singing their hearts out to sweet sounds from decades gone by. A magical moment was epitomised by synchronised hands in the air as Susan demonstrated ‘Superman’ for us!
Research shows that when you sing in a group, endorphins increase and our hearts beat in sync, demonstrated by Jacqueline, Veronica and Geoffrey. Devika and Jacqui shared a dance (and a touching moment) as the pair enjoyed a magnificent morning!
AFTERNOON TEA & THOUGHTFUL CARE TIPS
Our local famous Afternoon Tea was served ‘Devonshire Style’, with sweet scones and cake, while bottomless teas and coffees were on hand. With so much joy to ‘go around’, our compassionate care team were delighted to provide thoughtful care tips, as we poured with 34 years of dementia specialist knowledge.
DEMENTIA EXPERIENCE
Ready for each community visit, our experience opens a unique insight into what it’s really like to have brain changes. This helps us all gain awareness to make small changes that make a huge difference in our care. On the day, we were delighted to welcome many guests, and one had this to say: “You just do not realise do you? It was very insightful, especially the perspective of how they feel when walking”.
