SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS & Tips
ADVOCATES MEETING
Our Advocates meeting on Thursday 5th September went well. We want to thank everyone who attended, so that we can continue to meet all of your loved ones’ needs.
HOSPITAL VISITS
In the case of an emergency, when a Resident needs to go to hospital, we pride ourselves in being (in the words of one nurse recently) ‘one of the only’ homes making sure the Resident is accompanied by a member of staff who stays with them until they are admitted, or until a family member decides to take over.
Being a dementia specialist home, we know that a familiar face and support provide comfort and reassurance and help the Resident feel safe amidst strangers, in the often-busy surroundings of a hospital. This also lets us make sure that the Resident is as comfortable as possible and means we are immediately available to share any crucial information the professionals may need.
UNIVERSITY COLLABORATIONS
We are looking forward to participating in a research programme with UCL, Cardiff University and the University of Nottingham on a network proposal for the EPSRC called ‘Engineering Healthier Environments: Micro Network.
This initiative focuses on ageing, advances in smart home technologies and includes robotics which has important synergies that are specifically designed for health needs.
PROFESSIONAL CARE WORKERS’ WEEK
As part of Professional Care Workers’ Week, we hosted a staff party to recognise and thank all the dedicated carers and staff members.
The event took place on Friday 27th September and was a wonderful gathering filled with appreciation, delicious food and fun games.
Many staff members were honoured for their long service, with awards given to those who have completed more than five years at the Devonshire.
Staff members brought their families, making it a joyous occasion for everyone involved. The event was a way to show gratitude for the hard work of all the staff, who compassionately look after the Residents.
The evening featured several entertaining games which created a lively and enjoyable atmosphere for all who attended. To foster group spirit and improve dynamics, we organised several team-building games. Laughter filled the air as everyone engaged in the activities which strengthened bonds and created lasting memories. It was heartwarming to see so many smiles and hear the stories shared among colleagues and loved ones.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this event possible and to all the carers who spend their lives looking after others. Your dedication and hard work is truly appreciated.
SALLY’S INCREDIBLE SERVICE!
Special recognition was given to Sally, who has completed 24 years of service!
Starting in June 2000, her first job was as a care assistant. Throughout her time, she previously progressed through to assistant and deputy care manager before working in activities, kitchen and laundry. Currently, Sally is a versatile and loved member of our team.
When asked what her favourite moments at the Devonshire have been, she said: “I can’t name one. Way too many! Caring for so many people has been the honour of a lifetime. I particularly enjoy the Christmas parties, where we all socialise and become ‘like family’.
