DEMENTIA AWARENESS TIP

“Some days are better; some days are worse. Try to look for the blessing. Be positive, be kind and loving. It’s the feelings and memories that count. It’s okay if it’s not perfect, just let it go. Stay strong and get enough rest. You can’t do it all but take comfort you are doing your best”. – Anonymous.

Let us share the care!

WHY A DAY CENTRE?

“What a pleasure to visit a lovely home and Day Centre. Wonderful peaceful atmosphere and surroundings”.
- Councillor Patricia Bamford

From our FREE Singing Group to our Day Care, we have loved sharing the care in 2023 to allow family carers a well-deserved break. If you are struggling, please do not hesitate to call us on 0208 949 0818.

LET’S FOCUS ON THE POSITIVES!

Most diagnostic tools and testing for dementia often measure only what a person cannot do. Over the last 35 years, our Residents have taught us to focus on what they can still do. We adjust care slightly, so our Residents and Day Guests can thrive, which surprises and delights us daily. Sometimes we wonder if they even have dementia! For example, with eyesight loss, a person can sometimes not notice food placed in front of them. However, by moving the plate to the side or forward, or with a little support, it becomes possible to see it! We provide finger foods to have on the go if eating while walking and exploring is necessary, and when fine motor skills seize up, we try proprioception, to fire up muscle memory. We learnt this amazing hand under hand technique from Teepa Snow in her Positive Approach to Care. Teepa is planning to come to the UK in July. We are hoping to host a few training sessions at the Devonshire. To register your interest, please send your contact details to info@ddch.com
