DEMENTIA AWARENESS WORKSHOPS AND INDIVIDUAL FAMILY CONSULTS
We are registering interest for One-on-One Family Consultations as well as a five week 1.5 hour per week series of workshops (small groups) please contact Smith on 0208 949 0818.
During this unprecedented pandemic many families have been struggling with the care of their loved one living with dementia in the community. The 'old normal' had many services to support their care at home such as adult day centres, drop-in groups, transportation, coffee mornings and singing groups etc.
Unfortunately, due to the contagious nature of this virus and government guidelines, these services were closed. People living with dementia find it very confusing to have to wear masks and keep socially distant. Over these past seventeen months we have spoken to many families who have found having a place to call and share what is going on in their dementia journey and being able to discuss ideas and alternatives regarding the confounding nature of dementia has helped them cope better.
Consequently, in response to requests from those of you who have been struggling with the care of your loved ones living with dementia in the community, particularly during this period of crisis, we have continued individual family consults and have put together a series of five 1.5 hour workshops on Zoom to help you understand the changes in the brain caused by dementia and how this awareness can improve the quality of care you provide for your loved one. It also includes advice on how to care for yourself as care partner.
These workshops are based on our knowledge and experience of 33 years – it’s what our residents have taught us!
Please note these workshops are for family members caring for persons living with dementia in the community, not for staff or professionals working with people living with dementia.
Several of our own family members may also participate. There will be a nominal fee to register One-on-One consultantions (£25 up to one hour) and the Dementia Awareness Series (£25 per session - total of £125 for five sessions). Each weekly session will be 1.5 hours long and ALL proceeds will be donated to Alzheimer’s UK to find a cure, and until there is one, we have to support our loved ones living with dementia the best way possible. Please register using the form opposite and pay using the buttons below.
Five Week Workshop Series
One-on-One Family Consulation
World Alzheimer’s Day
We commemorated World Alzheimer’s day on 21st September by hosting a FREE Dementia Awareness Workshop on Zoom.
We were joined by family carers via Zoom in the afternoon and listened to presentations by our Director Annar, Care Manager Smith, Operations Manager Sandra and Assistant Manager Donna. They shared their 30+ years of experience and knowledge on how dementia affects the brain and gave tips on how to cope with challenging situations.
We were delighted to receive some very positive feedback and hope that we can offer this support to more family carers in our planned series of five dementia awareness workshops.
If you missed this workshop but would like to attend future Zoom awareness workshops, please register your interest to be notified by calling Jola on 020 8949 0818.
We always welcome questions via our NEW Helpline: 020 8949 0818, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.
