Life at the Devonshire - Independent activities in September

Welcome to our independent activities in September section of 'Life at the Devonshire' newsletter. We always welcome your feedback and suggestions.

From singing and dancing to activities and memory walks, it’s time to remember September…

Happy reading!

Stay Safe and well from all of us at the Devonshire.

Charles C loves to join in with most activities. His enthusiastic & cheeky ways make it a pleasure to not only watch him enjoy these activities, but our carers like to join in. He is especially in his element when completing puzzles and shines just as much as the shoe when shoe polishing (image below). The independent satisfaction and sense of ‘completion’ (as well as) the attention to detail shown in both activities is something to behold.

READING CLUB

Florence W & Charles C like to read their newspaper straight after their breakfast. Peter L & John S love to read their newspaper in the afternoon. Barbara F loves reading the garden books as this transports her back to a time where she had a mesmerising garden herself.

MESSAGES TO THE COMMUNITY

We encourage our Residents to express themselves. From best pieces of advice for future generations to the meaning of happiness, we love the sentiment of this activity.

BOWLING

Striking it lucky, there’s nothing like the unmistakable sound of the ‘clammer’ when pins are struck down. Our Residents love an afternoon game of bowling, either individually or against a friend.

KNITTING

No quitters, just knitters. Our Residents are focused & determined. Peaceful & tranquil, good old-fashioned knitting is a favourite at Devonshire. Here Catherine C prepares for the colder months by knitting a scarf. We should take a leaf out of her book ahead of those crisp Autumnal mornings on the horizon.

FRUIT DECORATION

Nature’s candy comes in handy. Who doesn’t love a themed treat? Especially when it tastes that much sweeter when you’ve crafted it entirely by yourself. Our Residents love this fruitful activity, not only enjoying their mealtimes, but ‘literally’ making their own meals.

OUTDOOR FUN IN THE SUN & AFTERNOON TEA

Carer Helena orchestrates a soul pleasing combination of mind stimulation & exercise with ball games. Bliss that’s not to miss, we regularly take our Residents outside for courtside seats in the Courtyard. Basking in the sunshine, they can truly have their cake and eat it (literally) with Afternoon tea coming back soon, and an array of activities at their disposal! Recently, Residents enjoyed ice-lollies & drinks as well as enjoying a live performance from a big-hearted band (which was so well received) that Beatrice not only danced with one of the performers, but she joined in with the song!
